I took THREE WEEKS OFF between December 2023 and January 2024! It felt very indulgent, spacious, and awesome, AND blocked off time for the 2024/2025 holiday season. đ
If you can swing it with your work situation, I highly recommend taking some extra time for yourself, even if you can only swing a day or two. Itâs akin to putting your own oxygen mask on first. Itâs not selfish, itâs practical and important. (Leadership Fluency anchor â wellbeing!)
During my third week off, I set myself up to do nothing except âbe.â This gave me an opportunity to enjoy the hectic pace of the holidays, knowing I would have a week of downtime once they were behind me.
I used my âweek of beingâ to dig into the Year of Living Intentionally workbook and reflect on 2023 and where I wanted to head 2024.
I wanted to start 2024 with a clear direction. I clarified my high-level goals for the year and scrubbed my priorities for Q1. (You know the feeling when you clean out a closet or organize your desk? Yeah, thatâs what it feels like, only more productive!)
In 2023, I also selected my three words for the year.* (In case you needed a refresher, because I certainly did, they were: Believe, Weave, and Do.) By March or April, I had completely forgotten that I chose words to guide my year, never mind lean into them.Â
As a result, I had no intention of selecting words this year. Then, a friend shared her words for 2023, and I liked them so much I had âword envy.â They seemed to fit perfectly for where Iâm heading this year so I adopted them.

My words for 2024 are: Choose. Create. Unleash.
My hope đ€is that they keep me focused when my attention starts to wander, and remind me of what I set out to accomplish this year. And I wish the same for you!
