“… I’m a Mann of wealth and taste.” – The Rolling Stones (Did you see what I did there? 🙂)
Do you know someone who looks great on paper but is working way too hard, exhausting themselves and their team in the process?
I bet you do! (Maybe it’s even you?)
Hi, I’m Sarah! 🙋🏻♀️
I work with senior leaders who struggle to delegate, overthink decisions, and over-prepare for everything. They’re exhausting themselves and their teams because they don’t fully trust their own judgment.
I help them ditch the doubt and lead with confidence and ease. How? → Through individual and group coaching, team development, and organizational programs that build sustainable leadership.
My services guide is here, and my coaching philosophy is here.
Sarah, why are you telling me this?
I’m so glad you asked! Here’s why:
- I’ve evolved, and you may (or may not!) know what I’m up to these days.
- The business has evolved. Last year, I invested in brand strategy work, which clarified my ideal (coaching) client. The refreshed logo, site, and color palette are meant to reflect the updated brand strategy.
- I love coaching (duh), and so I default to talking most often about coaching and not some of the other work I’m doing.
- I’m generally not one for a lot of self-promotion. AND… if I don’t promote myself, who will?
- Finally, 2026 marks my 11th(!) year in business, which has grown almost exclusively through referrals and networking, for which I am incredibly grateful. If people don’t know what I do or who I work with, it makes it harder for them to make a referral. I like referrals. 🙂
OK, enough about me! Let’s talk about you!
Seriously, when was the last time you reintroduced yourself at work?
I don’t mean reminding people where you live, your job title and your kids’ names (though there’s nothing wrong with that.)
How do you help people understand who you are today? You are not the same person you were a year ago or 10 years ago. Tell people the projects you enjoy, or what your superpower is. If you need help, I have some prompts for you below.
Remember above where I said I’m not one for self-promotion? Well, that may also apply to you.
So, really, when was the last time you re-introduced yourself? To your manager, your peers, stakeholders, team, or clients?
Here are a few reasons to consider it:
- You’ve evolved, and people still see the former version of you. In fact, my friend Darcy Eikenberg and I wrote an article about this for Harvard Business Review. (See? More shameless self-promotion!)
- You’ve taken on new responsibilities. When you self-promote, not only can you shift old perceptions, you can also increase your confidence and leadership presence.
- You’ve gained new skills. Organizations tend to pigeon hole people. If this is true for you, you may be limited in the opportunities available to you unless you tell people where you’ve grown.
- You want to be known for different things. Being skilled at something is different than being interested in the thing you’re skilled at. Let people know what you like to do and ask for opportunities to play in that sandbox.
- Expecting others to see your growth and achievements is a bad strategy. Many of us just “assume” that someone (say, our manager) is going to recognize the work we’ve put in, and all we’ve accomplished, and we will be rewarded accordingly. That happens. Sometimes. More often than not, it doesn’t. You need to self-advocate and let people know your value and how you’ve contributed.
Many people say they hate self-promotion. Been there! But if you don’t prioritize yourself, no one else will. And you can do it in a non-cringey way.
There is no right or wrong way to do this. What you choose to share with people will be driven by your personal situation, organization, tenure, etc. Here are a few script ideas to get you started.
- ”People still see me as the person who _____. But I’ve become someone who _____.”
- “Here’s how I used to do my best work_____.. Here’s what works for me today_____.”
- “Here’s what I’ve learned drains me: _____. Here’s what energizes me: _____.”
- “Here’s one thing I prioritize now that I didn’t before: _____.”
Who are you going to re-introduce yourself to? 🙂
